Trouble with making a good soy pillar candle

We have been trying to make a good soy pillar candle but are having problems. The candle burns all the way across and then downward for a while, but there comes a point where one of the sides of the candle will collapse and spill out the melt pool into the bowl/plate holding the candle. The molded candle burns up really fast because it keeps losing its wax so you are left with this shell and this huge pool of unburned wax around it.

I've tried the followinng:

1) soy wax by iteself (I'm getting my soy votive/pillar was from Moonglow)
2) pillar soy wax with stearic acid (which I don't like doing - did not seem to help anyway)
3) a combination of pillar soy wax and palm wax

All with the same result - the diameter of the pillar is about 2 inches; we are using a 51-32-18-C-Soy wick from Moonglow. Is my problem my wich or my wax or both?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Soy Pillars

To get a real answer you need to supply more information.
What wax are you using?
What size is the mold?
What wick are you using?

Also, do you want the candle to be consumed as it is burned or tunnel down leaving a thin shell?

Here is an example of what works for me.

Wax: Ecosoya PB
Mold: 2x4.5
Wick: LX 18 or CD 14 (if I want the candle consumed and not tunneled, which I do most of the time)

I use spool wicks, not pre-tabbed, so I can twist the wick when I wick the mold. Since these wicks are both self trimming they will tend to curl in one direction. This throws more heat in the direction of the curl which can cause a blowout in a small candle like this. By twisting the wick you get a wick that rotates as it burns down and helps with a more even melt pool.

Hopes this helps.

Trouble with making a good soy pillar candle

Hello, I checked out your website, very nice by the way, and with all the pillars on it, you must have found the secret combination to have your candles burn properly. I am hoping that you might share how you corrected the problem. I am having the same trouble with my pillars. Right now I am using Eco Soy PB for my pillars, they look great until they burn for awhile, then they do exactly as you described. Thanks for your help.
