Hi,
I am new to candlemaking. I have made 2 batches and have a question about the temperature. Can someone please tell me approximately how long it takes for the soy wax to reach temperatures of 130-160 degrees? I am not sure if I am looking at the right side of the thermometer??? It seems as if my wax is reaching a certain temp. and will not increase. I am boiling the wax for about 1 hr.
Wax temps
Hi - WOW! Thought I would add a word of caution. Wax is combustible, and if it gets too hot, it will burst into flames without warning, literally. No smoke, no sizzle, just flames. The temperature at which wax will combust is called the flashpoint, and each type of wax has a different flashpoint. Fortuntately, soy wax has a very high flashpoint, perhaps 500 degrees. But many waxes and scents have much lower flashpoints, below 350. Baking soda will put out the fire - water will not.
Good luck, have fun, and be safe!

Thank you for the response. I greatly appreciate it.
Temperature Times
Hi!
Wow... an hour?!! Is the wax actually boiling? If so... your thermometer is definately broken.
I don't know what the boiling point of soy wax is... but it is well over 212 degrees (water's boiling point).
Thanks for your post!
