Storing Scents

I received my scents in plastic bottles (found this great website which has answered tons of questions) and went on my merry way. After a few weeks I looked for a second supplier and their website said that the plastic bottles are for shipping only and to never store them that way. Amber bottles are the best way to store fragrances or they would go bad. Is this true? Why would my original supplier not tell me? Are the glass amber bottles important so the fragrance doesn't get damaged by the light? Anything that I can think of that requires glass amber bottles has organic matter which would multiply from light. Just incase, I put the fragrances in a box and closed the lid. I went to a wine store and bought amber wine bottles with good seals but am still confused about this so thought I'd ask around. They are so expensive and I don't want them to go bad but believe parinoia is setting in.
Thanks.

fragrance bottles

the plastic bottles are fine. Just keep out of sunlight in a cool place. I have been using suppliers who ship in plastic bottles for over a year and they are doing just fine. Please leave your paranoia with whoever told you to use amber bottles...

I hope you get more answers like mine so you can be at ease. lol.

just keep out of direct sunlight....I keep mine in a cabinet under my bar...

I agree wonderwoman

I have always stored my scents in the plastic bottles they came in from the supplier and have not had any problems with the scents. I have been doing candles for over a year and this has never been an issue. I also store mine in a cabinet. I have not heard anything about needing to use amber bottles... I think you're safe as long as they are not in direct sunlight and you keep closed when not using the scent.

Thank you for the reply as

Thank you for the reply as scents are pretty expensive and I was quite surprised to read it. The few that I did store in amber bottles was such a pain! I called the supplier and inquired and they didn't really know much about it which was wierd since it was on their website.

"For longer shelf life(over one year), fragrance should be stored in amber glass in a cool place. One pound fragrance is packed in plastic bottles for economical shipping, but should be transferred to glass to extend shelf life. All fragrance is best used within a year."

This might sound gross but my dentist makes a killer antibactirial mouthwash. It has to be kept in amber bottles or it turns a greensih colour due to an algae-like organism that can occur with sunlight. I thought maybe it was similar or something.

I just wanted to say that this forum is really awesome. Everyone is so friendly and informative with great comments and replies.

Take care
