Starting a candle business
Hi,
You aren't confused... some unmentionable decided to spam the list.
Anyway... I've removed the crud. :D
Thanks,

What does this have to do with candle making?
I must be confused. :?: I can't see how any of these web sites helps in candle making. (Except maybe for the "stress" of not having them turn out good.) I thought I'd get on just to see what it was all about - and I CAN'T. It was like the web site was GONE. Anyone know what this is all about? :?:

Candle business
Hi there, I am brand new to this forum and to candlemaking, but not new to starting a business ;) Here are some tips that I think would be helpful to this type of venture:
1. First, make sure you've found solutions to some of the candle-making problems like cracking and sinking, mottling, getting the right mix of fragrance and color, using the right wicks for the various sized candles, etc. - so that you know you are offering a top-notch, trouble-free and beautiful product!
2. Next, decide if you will specialize in just a few colors and scents (and stock up on those supplies!) or if you will offer a wide range. Make sure you have plenty of supplies on hand to get started.
3. Make up a few candles and try to sell them on Ebay, or maybe to co-workers if you work outside the home, or - give them as gifts. Make a custom tag to attach to each candle that includes your business name and phone number so people will know they can order from you. You can make these on the computer and print them out on card stock.
4. Or - make up a whole BUNCH and sign up to be a vendor at a craft fair or church bazaar. Be sure to have samples of all available colors and scents.
5. Make up a small supply and sell them to a local giftshop owner or other merchant whose inventory might be a logical tie-in with candles. Or, invite them to sell the candles for you on consignment. Be sure to follow up with them to see how sales are going, if customers are asking for specific scents, etc.
6. Make up some inventory and have an Open House in your home to launch your business! Have a display set up showing off your containers, colors and scents, and take orders or sell the inventory cash-and-carry.
7. Check out a small business marketing book from the library and learn some cost-effective ways to market and promote your business.
Good luck!
