soy candles cracking

I have just changed to soy from paraffin wax and have been experiencing all of my votive candles splitting. Not always in the middle (I thought from the wick). I am also using Vybar with the scents and dyes. I am melting at 175 - 180 degrees. What am I doing wrong?

It is most probable that they are being cooled too fast. Maybe working in airconditioned eviroment or a cold room like basement or garage during the winter. My votives cracked on me when I did them in our airconditioned work area at one point because the air was on too high.

My best bet is that you are burning the wax. Soy wax should not be heated over 160 degrees. My soy wax is melted at no higher than 140 degree, so heating it to 175-180 is much too high!!

Are you using the correct wax? 100% soy wax is too soft. You need to use a special blend for votives and pillars.

I did a little more digging and I found this page:

It basically states that we may be pouring our candles when the wax is still too hot, but it's more of a chance that our candles are cooling way too fast.

I've been having the same exact problem... Are you washing your molds right before pouring the wax? I'm thinking small amounts of water in the mold could be the problem, but I'm not sure.
