scenting soy wax candles with pure essential oils

How to get the balance right in order that it gives the correct scent throw. I have made many soy wax candles. I am a fully qualified Aromatherapist and would like to make my own candles. However any candles that I have made just don't work out right. The scent seems to be there when you initially make them but does not last through the burninf stage of the candles. There also does not seem to be a good scent throw. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Adding fragrance oil

Are you using the correct amount of oil...you should use about 1 1/2 oz per 1 pound of wax. After your wax reaches the proper temperature remove the pot for the stove, add your fragrance oil and stir for an additional two minutes. You want to make sure that the fragrance oil is well blended with the wax.

I second that, Therapeeze!

How wonderful that you are trying to implement your aromatherapy background in candle making. One of my concerns is using fragrance properly..you are way ahead of the game. I would also like to know more about prolonging the scent of my soy candles and what methods to use for this.

adding essential oils

Hi Therapeeze,

I too had probs with my essential oils.
I understand what they say about thr amount for fragrant oils but they are entirely different to essential oils. I base my essential oil candles 1% - 3% depending on the oils.
I have an australian bush blend which is fantastic in candles because the eucalyptus is a natural deodoriser as well as smelling like the aussie bush. When I make candles in that because it is a strong blend I use only 2% of that oil so for eg. if I have 600mls of wax melted I will add 40 drops per 100 ml ( Iwork on 20 drops = 1ml of essential oil) so for 600 ml I will add 240 drops or 12ml I hope this helps.
Cheers
