Redo of a messup?

Hi!
I am new here and new to art of candle crafting. I don't even have my wax yet, just ordered from CandleScience. I am sure I will have some messups when I first get started and all along the way. My question, can wax be re-melted and then re-poured? I have read of folks who's candles crack. If this happens, and the wax has been scented and dyed, is it OK to melt this dud back down and try again? Will I loose any properties in the wax?

Thanks for putting up this forum, I am sure I will be around quite a bit. Still wish there was a book out there on this subject. And Will, nice informative site, thank you.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone!
James

Redo of a messup?

Thank you Will. So it sounds like it would be best just to remelt to just below the flashpoint of the oil, if it was fragranced? I will follow your advice and melt slowly!

Thanks again,
James

Redo of a messup?

Hi James!

Thanks for your post, and welcome to the forum!

I have successfully remelted candles,... but you need to be careful not to get the wax to hot or it could burst into flames. Not a good thing for the microwave or your home! The fragrance oil in the wax will have a much lower flashpoint than your wax. You will also loose a bit of the fragrance due to the rapid evaporation at higher temps.

Melt very slowly... and be careful!

Thanks again for your post and your visit!
