A couple ways to fix the "mottled" appearance at the top of the candles when finished:

Smooth out the surface with a hot hair dryer OR (I have found this more effective)

leave a little bit of the wax in the pyrex container (1/4-1/8 cup). After the candle dries, melt the wax left in the container in the micro. Pour it on top to fill holes that may have formed. When it dries it should be smooth and undetectable.
