Hello to all. I am totally new to soy candle making and my first project didn't go that great. I used 2 oz. glass jelly jars, (wax used is about 1 3/4 oz.) and small braided wick. and microwaveable soy wax (by Yaley) for containers. The instructions were really general and the candles smell great when you open the lid, but really no scent throw when you light them. I am a soaper too and used a soap and candle fragrance oils. I think maybe I should have let the wax cool before I added the scent as I just added right away and I thought this may be the reason for no scent throw when lit.
Also the jelly jars get really hot when burning since they are small and the wax turns clear when lit for a half hour or so. Eventually the wick in some of them sunk as the entire container was hot melted wax.
I am new to this and a little frustrated but determined to try again. I'm so glad I found you all. Thanks, Leann.

Hi Leann,
A good place to go for information on what wick to use with what size container is www.candlescience.com they have a wick finding tool that gives you a good place to start. They also list the meltpoint and pouring temperture for the soy waxes they sell.
Your little candles may have had too large of a wick for the size of the container. It can be hard to get much scent from a 2" candle if you are in a large room. Also, some scents do better in soy than others. Use the soy rating chart at candlescience to get the strongest scents in soy. Don't forget to let your soy candles cure for anywhere from 24 hours to two weeks before you burn them. It all depends on your wax and scent choice. Also, when you go to candlescience, read the instructions on how to make a soy wax candle. Good luck, safe and happy candlemaking, redmaple www.tootsiescandles.com
