I read that a heat gun can be used to even out a mottled finish of a soy candle...
what is a heat gun?...is it the same as a butane torch?

A heat gun is similar to a hair dryer, though they run at much higher temperature. I just made my first set of candles last night and a coupe of them had mottled patches. I used my blow dryer this morning and melted the top layer. When the tops cooled, they looked great!
