Golden Wax 464 Anyone?

I was curious if anyone uses Golden Wax 464? I have been having problems with sink holes and crusty looking tops after the candles are cured.

Any suggestions of how to fix this? Would it help to heat the jars before pouring?

Thank You,

Karen :)

temp

Hi!
I used the same wax in the beginning and found that at the recommended pour temp :125 i was getting ALOT of aestetic issues, bumpy tops, and sink holes. I had a blonde moment one day and forgot i was waiting for it to cool and poured it at 155 andit turned out PERFECT. It was also in a container which they say you are supposed to pour at a lower temp, but not for this wax. i heated it to 180 then added coloring, took off heat and poured the FO at 175. hopefully this helps!

Soywax Pouring temps

Rule of thumb...if you have a container soy wax pour colder - if you have a pillar blend soy wax pour hotter.

Fragrances & soywax

Let me start off by saying it is not the wax. I havent seen a soy wax that didnt take to a fragrance that was formulated for soy. Now...if the fragrances you are using have not been formulated for soy wax or have NOT previously been tested in soy wax therein lies your problem.

I dont believe that "least expensive or more expensive" is the "you get what you pay for" issue here at all. Believe it or not Im using a fragrance this month that I purchased from the a supplier who had $5/lb clearance blowout and it is currently my #1 seller because it is awesome! I've also used a super-concentrate at $30/lb fragrance from another supplier during the 2008 holiday season and it was my #1 seller for two months - this same supplier also had a scent area where fragrances were $7 and I purchased 10lbs of a black cherry that was to die for...and it was a great seller as well las summer.

Of course you do have to get to know your suppliers very well to make sure fragrances are not diluted or cut with other chemicals or other non-scented oils. I've been purchasing fragrances regularly from at least 3 suppliers for about 10 years now. So I trust that what they are selling me is good stuff...no matter the price. Some vendors really get great deals on stuff and they pass on those savings to us. Research the deals, ask your vendors alot of questions and then run with it...believe me you are going to go through more than a 50lb box by the time your through :D

I always tell people that if youre just starting you have alot more resources than some of did some odd 10 years ago - even 5 years ago we were still struggling with some resources. It is time cosuming; and at times frustrating. You spend alot of money like the previous person stated that testing testing testing and more testing you'll find unanswered questions through trial and error.

We started off with basically just money for supplies - this is just one of the stories from our humble beginnings...

I purchased 600lbs of a pillar blend soy wax @ .30cents/lb. I was told that the wax had been sitting in a warehouse for about a year and no one knew it was there and that it may be no good - Of course I said there is no such thing as bad soy wax. Well the wax was still boxed from manufacturer but badly dehydrated and lost alot of moisture...so I began the testing process. I began blending it with the softest container soy wax I could find that didnt have any additives in small percentages until it was just right....that alone took me about 30 pounds. I guess what Im saying is WE have to be innovative! It makes our products who we are...

And after 10years we've only just opened a small candle showroom in a small town outside Chicago, IL about two years ago because we only do candle parties & sales through a few reps we have. We do have quite a few people who love our candles here but we also friends and family selling our products in Minnesota; Connecticut, Michigan & Florida.

Believe me when I tell you if you keep with it throughout the entire hair pulling; teeth grinding times...youll make a great chandler. :) :) :)

GW464

I purchased a box of the GW464 because I've heard both good and bad things about it so Im in process of testing it and poured some candles today. I mixed in and stirred fragrance at 120 for about 30 seconds then poured. I should see some sink hole results, if any, tomorrow.

Golden Wax 464 Anyone?

Try pouring hot - around 165. Through trial and error I found this to be the optimal pouring temp.

Golden Wax 464 Anyone?

I think it has something to do with the temperature at pouring or how hot you heat the wax initially - because it happens to me as well. But Im using Eco Soya brand soy wax. Ive already requested troubleshooting from a few friends and in about 2 - 3 weeks we are going to do some testing just to see what happens.

Problem with Tunneling, Sink Holes, & "Mottling&quo

Karen,

I am having the same problem. I have used several boxes and just started into it with a new box. I was wondering if it was just me and then I joined this forum to find you. Just curious as to how long you've been having the problem and also if you are using 50lb boxes. If you are using 50lb boxes I'd be curious to know the lot # on your box. We may have a legitimate complaint with Golden Brands. Also, I have found that when I use fragrance oil from one supplier it is very nominal but with a new "cheaper" supplier it is much more prevalent. I'm still too new to know for sure about the you get what you pay for philosophy with fragrance oil but it's starting to make alot of sense to me. Let me know if you find out anything concrete. I'm fixing to email Golden Brands and see what they have to say....
