I have a candle business and have been making candles for awhile but my candles for some reason dont' burn all the wax, they leave a bunch on the sides, and sometimes just burn a hole. It is especially bad in tins. Could someone help me? Thanks!
Thanks libertylover
Lynn,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your advise for "test" candles. You have saved me lots of time and most importantly lots of money!!!
For all you new at soy candle making should really try this. It's very good advise.
Once again Lynn,
Thank you very much,
Donna :) :) :)
candle wax not burning down the sides..
Wick up to burn the wax around the diameter of the sides.
Your metling pool isn't hot enough.
When I am making test candles, I do test candles without
wicks. I cure them for 7 days.
Go to Walmart and spend $.88 for wooden shish kabobs
and use them to run a hole straight down the middle to the
bottom of the inside wax container. Get your wick and cut
the metal wick tab off down at the bottom. Then insert
the wick into the wax and just run a heat gun or blow dryer
across the top and melt the top and seal the wax around the
wick. Let it harden and become solid.
Then light it up and test your candle. If it isn't still hot enough,
get some pliers and take the wick out and add a bigger or smaller
wick until the candle burns the way it is suppose to. If the wick
doesn't want to come out, just run the shish kabob along the side
of the wick to loosen it up, then pull it out.
Saves me time and money to do it this way.
This is only done on test candles.
Make sure to stick the wick in the correct way. Don't insert the
wick in upside down. A correct wick inserted correcly looks like
like this...^ ...not this V...Look at a wick with a metal wick tab
and see what I mean.
